At Revolution Events, giving back has always mattered.

This year, the company introduced a new initiative offering every team member one paid volunteering day per year to support a charity or cause close to their heart – whether that’s helping at a local event, supporting a community project, or donating professional skills to a meaningful cause.

Event Director (and Celebrant) Deborah recently used her volunteer day to support Gift of a Wedding, a UK charity that plans and provides urgent weddings and vow renewals for people living with terminal or life-limiting illnesses. The charity works alongside volunteer wedding professionals across the country, who donate their services free of charge to create meaningful moments and lasting memories for couples and their families.

As part of the initiative, Deborah donated her time to write and deliver a wedding ceremony for Claire and Simon.

From the very first online meeting, there was an instant connection. Claire and Simon’s warmth, humour and obvious love for one another immediately stood out. During the planning meetings at their home, conversations flowed naturally and comfortably, with the couple focused not on themselves, but on creating a joyful day for the people around them.

Claire is living with terminal illness, which is why the couple qualified for support through Gift of a Wedding. Yet despite the challenges they are facing, the overwhelming feeling surrounding the wedding was one of love, laughter and light.

One of the moments that stayed with Deborah most was Claire explaining that she wanted their wedding day to give family and friends a happy memory to hold onto when times become difficult in the future. It was a reminder of the extraordinary impact that moments of joy and togetherness can have during incredibly hard times.

The ceremony itself balanced emotion and laughter perfectly – including one particularly unexpected moment involving a well-timed swear word, delivered with full permission from the couple, which had guests roaring with laughter.

The day also highlighted the kindness and compassion shown behind the scenes by everyone involved. Following an unexpected accident during the celebrations, the team at Broome Park Hotel stepped in immediately to help, with Jo and the venue team going above and beyond to support those involved.

Gift of a Wedding relies entirely on generosity from the wedding industry, with celebrants, photographers, venues, florists, musicians and suppliers donating their time and services to make weddings possible for couples facing unimaginable circumstances.

For Revolution Events, the day reinforced exactly why the volunteering initiative was introduced in the first place.

Sometimes giving people the time and space to support something meaningful creates a ripple effect far beyond a single day away from the office. And in this case, it helped keep somebody’s light shining.
